1869 90c blue & black Washington imperforate plate essay on stamp paper -- large margins all around including top sheet margin.  A beautiful pre-printing item of the 1869 Issue.  The design which would finally be used for the 90c stamp featured Lincoln -- this essay design features the same John Trumbull portrait used by Toppan, Carpenter & Co. for the 1860 90c Washington Issue.
