1923 2c Washington Mint Never-Hinged 6-Point Star Plate Block of Eight

1923 2c carmine Washington mint never-hinged plate number F17117 block of eight with 6-point star. Wide margin at top, sharp color and beautiful never-hinged original gum make this one of the best examples of this plate variety we have ever come across. The six-point star was added to enlarged plates of the 2c Washington stamp in order to keep track of the sheets to be processed in modified perforation machines intended to improve the centering of sheet stamps. An exquisite example of this highly sought after and very hard to find Fourth Bureau Issue plate block.
